As a doctor coming out of training, you will earn the two things that have been controlled for you for the past 10+ years. TIME and MONEY.
.
How you manage these valuables will have lifelong repercussions for you, your career and your family.
.
💲MONEY💲- Every dollar counts, so heed the advice of the numerous financial physician bloggers. They speak the truth.
☝️Be cautious of people approaching you about large investments.
☝️Know where every dollar goes. Be an entrepreneur! Take a risk with a small business, or learn about incorporating and branding yourself. ☝️At the end of the day, if all else fails, you still have your day job, an unparalleled experience, and a great tax write-off.
.
🕐TIME🕒- This is our most underappreciated - and constantly abused - asset. 😖As junior attendings, you will inevitably die way to the inefficiencies of our healthcare system, lose time with documentation and medical records, and probably be a bit abused by senior physicians wanting to reap more for less work. (It’s the truth, and I am direct).
😈Recognize this and fight back. This is the time to brand yourself, not be someone else pawn. 👉Similarly, account for all of your time in any given day, and cut out wasted time in traffic, unnecessary movements, smartphone distractions, and anything else that is preventing you from being successful.
