#doctors and #nurses must be prepared to deal with a plethora of issues that are outside of their own duties. The comfort zone of the healthcare team is dictated by the s least organized or prepared team member.

👉Anticipate - In anesthesia, the adage that 95% of time, things go fine, but its the 5% of cases where we make our salary. Although we set up for routine cases, we always have medications and equipment ready for the worst possible scenario, and are thresholds for action or lower when patient presents with significant heart, lung, and kidney disease.
.
👉Contingency Plan - there has never been a day where the operating room schedule it looks the same as it was the night before. patients will take the wrong medications, eat before surgery, or present some cariopulmonary enigma to the anesthesiologist and surgeons after they are asleep under anesthesia. .
👉Huddles - Remember, teamwork makes the dream work ;) at the beginning of the day, connect with the nurses, doctors and consultants, and other stuff on the ward to discuss plans for complex cases. There is always something that needs to be acknowledged before the day starts. I have even seen defibrillators not functioning when tested! 🤔Briefing your colleagues about your own concerns will increase vigilance between disciplined and help people notice problems before they happen.
.
And EVERYONE should know how to use an AED!
