In our profession, feelings of failure and disappointment are inevitable. As you gain experience and confidence, greater obstacles will fall within your comfort zone, each requiring a different approach and offering a life lesson. I'd be lying to say it was easy. Here are my two cents about how to react to these situations:
.
👉Give yourself time to feel what you need to feel. Cry. Yell out loud in the driver's seat. Pour out your heart to your loved ones. Listen to loud music. You have a right to be disappointed. It allows you to heal. Find a constructive way to let your emotions out. .
👉Realize this brutal truth - You're likely to fail again. In any situation where quality accomplishments are at stake, the odds are always stacked against us. That doesn't mean that it won't work out. Think about how few people make it as far as you have, and even more importantly, how many of those people are willing to stick it out and keep going after facing their shortcomings.
👉Find YOUR solution. Your "failure" happened for a reason specific to you, so don't be too quick to generalize your situation to that of others. The only person in your boat is yourself, and you have to navigate yourself out. Be creative, ask for feedback, and don't be afraid to ask for help.
👉Dust yourself off and try again. "Failure" is not equal to "not suceeding," but it will be if you don't keep putting yourself out there.
.
I definitely needed some of my own advice today.
